Nintendo commenced today’s September 2025 Nintendo Direct by confirming that Illumination is once again collaborating on a new Super Mario Bros. Movie titled The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
This confirmation follows widespread rumors that circulated online yesterday, indicating that Nintendo will indeed partner with the Minions movie studio once more to produce a film adaptation of the classic 2007 Wii platformer. The movie is scheduled for release in the U.S. on April 3, 2026, and in Japan on April 24, 2026, with its initial trailer showcasing a brief glimpse of footage before unveiling its official title and logo.
Today’s announcement also disclosed some of the cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. The lineup emphasizes returning actors, which should not come as a surprise, featuring Chris Pratt reprising his role as Mario, Anya Taylor-Joy returning as Princess Peach, Charlie Day back as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Naturally, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie holds significant potential for new cast members as well. The question on many fans' minds is likely who will portray Rosalina, as this iconic character first appeared in the original 2007 game but was absent from The Super Mario Bros. Movie. The previous film also hinted at a possible appearance by Yoshi, although it remains uncertain whether Mario's dinosaur companion will have any dialogue when or if he eventually makes an appearance.
