Google has announced the introduction of a new "Purchases" tab in Gmail, which will provide users with a convenient overview of their forthcoming package deliveries. This feature will enable users to access all emails related to their purchases in a single location, including those from previous orders and shipments.
The technology company emphasizes that Gmail will continue to display packages expected to arrive within 24 hours at the top of users' inboxes. The new tab consolidates all purchase information into one cohesive view.
This update enhances Gmail's package-tracking capability, which was first introduced in 2022, allowing users to monitor their upcoming package deliveries directly from their inbox without needing to visit the respective carrier's website.
Google highlights that this new feature will be particularly beneficial during the holiday season, as PwC's 2025 holiday forecast indicates that 39% of total planned holiday gift expenditures will occur within the five-day span from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday. According to Google, the new tab will facilitate a more efficient tracking of these shipments.
The feature is being rolled out today for mobile and web users globally who have personal Google accounts.
Additionally, Google has revealed that it is enhancing the Promotions category in Gmail, enabling users to sort promotion emails by "most relevant." The company asserts that this will simplify the process for individuals to view deal updates from their preferred brands. Furthermore, Gmail will remind users about upcoming deals and timely offers.
This update is set to begin rolling out in the coming weeks for mobile users with personal Google accounts.
Today's announcement follows Gmail's recent launch of a feature designed to assist users in managing their subscriptions and decluttering their inboxes by allowing them to view all subscription emails in one location and easily unsubscribe from those they no longer wish to receive.
